Watch a Quentin Tarantino film for a few minutes, or listen to him in an interview, and you quickly realise he’s obsessed with the movies, so it was only a matter of time before he made a film about Hollywood. In what Tarantino is calling his ninth film (he’s made ten if you count both parts of Kill Bill as two separate features), Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is set in LA in 1969, and follows TV actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), who along with his best friend and stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) is trying to get his head around the changes to the movie business. The film also involves Dalton’s neighbour, actress Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie), who was one of the victims of the Manson Family murders in the same year.

"I've been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old," Tarantino said a statement. "I'm very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore. And I couldn't be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff."

Despite the dark subject matter, the first trailer suggests Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is a knockabout buddy comedy. We see DiCaprio and Pitt’s characters joking in a black and white TV interview and see Pitt on set in a scene with Bruce Lee, and putting up a decent fight against the martial arts legend. Tarantino regulars like Tim Roth and Kurt Russell both feature in the film too, as do Al Pacino and Timothy Olyphant.
