Terminator Genisys trailer released

Feature by News Team | 04 Dec 2014

The first full trailer for Terminator Genisys, the fifth film in the Terminator series, has been unveiled, with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to the fray as the T-800.

Genisys will see the return not only of Arnie, but of the shape-shifting T-1000 which was hot on his tail throughout the course of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In the new film, series protagonist Sarah Connor is a young girl orphaned by a Terminator, and raised by Schwarzenegger’s T-800 in a ‘father figure’ role. Schwarzenegger drew the comparison with T2 earlier this year, saying: "The way it reads, it has the same feel of Terminator 2. It’s big. There’s hardcore action and it has some really great visual effects in there, but not over the top."

The film follows 2009's Terminator: Salvation, which was mauled by critics and fans alike. In our one-star review, we took particular exception to the "boring and clumsily staged" action sequences, as well as the "inept" direction from McG. Hoping to improve on that, the new film will be directed by Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor, whose previous directorial credits include episodes of Game of Thrones, The Sopranos and Mad Men

In the cast alongside Schwarzenegger, Sarah Connor will be played by Emilia Clarke, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. Spiderman star JK Simmons, former Doctor Who lead Matt Smith and Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke are also onboard. Terminator Genisys will be released in July 2015.
