The shrinking superhero gets a sequel alongside Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp in the latest film from Marvel

With its world premiere last night, the whole world is aflutter with the first reactions to Black Panther. As tends to be the case with Marvel movies, the hyperbolic tweet reviews are pretty much all along the lines of “BEST MARVEL MOVIE EVER!”, but in this case we’re willing to believe the hype.

The Marvel assembly line never ends, though. Black Panther is released on 13 February, and April sees the return of The Avengers (and pretty much every other Marvel superhero) with Infinity War. After that the next film off the conveyor belt is the tiddler of Marvel's 2018 offerings, Ant-Man and the Wasp, the sequel to 2015's lightly likable comedy-action film Ant-Man.

Paul Rudd once again plays the shrinking superhero, and as the title suggests he’s joined this time around by another diminutive crime fighter, the Wasp. Teased at the end of the original film, Wasp is the alter ego of Hope Pym (played by Evangeline Lilly), the daughter of Michael Douglas’s character Hank Pym, who returns in this film too.

If you remember anything from Ant-Man, it’s probably Michael Peña as the fast-talking Luis and the inventive visual gags relating to characters being miniaturised – for example, a child’s Thomas the Tank Engine toy became a terrifying runaway locomotive in the first film. The good news: Peña is back (we see the merest glimpse of him in the teaser above), as are the goofy shrinking gags (Douglas’ Pym shrinks his office building to the size of a trolley suitcase, complete with retractable handle and wheels).
