Nic Cage unleashed as Glasgow’s Cage-a-Rama returns
Cage-a-Rama, “Europe’s longest-running Nicolas Cage Film Festival”, returns to Glasgow next year with two more days of Cage-related antics
Cage-a-rama is back, and like any sequel worth its salt, it has a ridiculous subtitle – Cage-a-rama 2: Cage Uncaged. In the first installment of this Nicolas Cage festival from Glasgow DIY film exhibition crew Matchbox Cineclub, we saw Cage the action hero (in films like Con-Air and The Rock) and Cage the romantic lead (in films like Moonstruck and Valley Girl). This time around it sounds like we’re getting Cage the wild man.
“Cage-a-rama 2: Cage Uncaged fully unleashes the wild side of Cage with eight films, classic and brand-new, featuring the Oscar-winner’s most iconic meltdowns, freakouts and outbursts,” says Matchbox. The films haven’t been announced yet, but fingers-crossed the line-up includes his genius collaboration with Werner Herzog, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans; his soulful, wild-eyed turn in David Lynch’s Wild at Heart; and the hilarious and underrated Vampire's Kiss. Less great, but certainly fulfilling the "wild" brief would also be The Wicker Man.
As well as the film, the festival has plenty of bonus content planned too, including Cage’s 55th Birthday Brunch + Quiz and Going Full Cage, a live event hosted by Tara Judah (Watershed Cinema producer) and Ti Singh (Bristol Bad Film Club founder and author). Find out the full line-up when the programme is announced on 24 October.
Cage-a-rama programmer Sean Welsh said: “People flew in from across Europe to attend the first, sell-out Cage-a-rama in January 2018. We wanted to raise the stakes with this sequel, so Cage-a-rama 2: Cage Uncaged is going to be an even more intense experience for fans.” Might the great Nic Cage himself also make an appearance? “Last year, our campaign to #BringCage2Glasgow netted his official stand-in, Marco Kyris, so this year we’re upping our game to get him,” Welsh promises.
