Everyone’s favourite misanthrope is back! After six long years, Larry David is returning with a ninth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The show follows an exaggerated version of writer, comedian and Seinfeld co-creator Larry David as he bumbles from one awkward social disaster or embarrassing faux pas to another. We’re promised that the new ten-episode series will see the return of many Curb Your Enthusiasm favourites: Jeff (Jeff Garlin), Susie (Susie Essman) and Leon (JB Smoove) are all set to make an appearance, as will David’s nemesis Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen as themselves.

Garlin, who plays David’s manager in the show, describe Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2015 as “the only show that I know in the history of television that only moves forward because the creator is basing his decision entirely on creativity…. Larry David is so rich that he doesn’t have to do anything unless it’s good.”

Earlier in the year, when David announced the resurrection of Curb Your Enthusiasm, he joked that the reason for his comeback was that “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’”

This riff is referenced in the irreverent teaser trailer for the ninth series, which was released online today and shows Larry David dressed as Caesar while spinning on a plinth. Will this have anything to do with the actual ninth series? We’ll find out 1 October when Curb Your Enthusiasm returns to HBO, with the UK Sky Atlantic premiere sure to follow.
