Could this creepy show be the new Stranger Things?

There are definite shades of Stranger Things in this new Netflix show from Germany

Like almost everyone on the planet, we’re looking forward to the new series of Stranger Things coming this Halloween, but Netflix look to have another fix for our craving for macabre sci-fi up their sleeves. Titled Dark, the recently released trailer for the new German show suggests a fair bit of overlap with the Duffer brothers’ much-loved Netflix series.

First off, there’s the 80s setting – part of Dark takes place in 1986. As the trailer above reveals, there’s also a plot surrounding abducted kids. “A missing child sets four families on a frantic hunt for answers,” reads the official synopsis. “Their search for a culprit unearths a small town’s sins and secrets.”

From the team of director Baran bo Odar and writer Jantje Friese, Dark looks to surely live up to its title. The colour palette of the show appears much grimmer than Stranger Things, with images suggesting things might get even more horrific than the events that took place in the earlier show. There might also be a time travel twist worthy of M. Night Shyamalan. “The question isn’t who kidnapped the children," says a character in the promo, "but when…?” Colour us intrigued.

Dark arrives on Netflix this winter. Take a look at the trailer in the player above
