In The Informant!, Matt Damon plays straitlaced company rep Marc Whitacre who is desperate to take the top spot at big corn company ADM. He believes he's found a way to sideline his fellow senior staff by supporting the FBI in a wire-tapping conspiracy which will finger many of those in the company in a price-fixing scam which Whitacre will then expose. However, whistleblowers aren’t always as reliable as they look and once MI5 agents delve into Whitacre’s private life, they find he has plenty of skeletons in the cupboard, which mean things might not turn out how he would like. Soderbergh holds back revealing whether it's truth or lies which are coming out of Whitacre's mouth, gradually exposing his character and increasingly audacious behaviour as the film goes on. And as the lies emerge so do the laughs making The Informant! an entertaining skit on the desire to manipulate the truth in office politics and beyond. [Matthew Arnoldi]
