A new series is a welcome chance for gleefully supernatural cheesefest The Lair to clean house and sort out the problems that plagued the previous year. At its best when it’s fun rather than sleazy, the ludicrous melodrama surrounding an exclusive men's club for vampires has guilty pleasure written all over it. It’s had a vampire civil war, survived a werewolf and just as plucky journalist Thom is getting used to living with Lair head Damien (Shortbus’s Peter Stickles), an all new threat emerges: a terrifying gorgon in the shape of porn superstar Johnny Hazzard!

With oblique references to throwing the killer plant nonsense from last season in the trash, things are finally back on track. There’s more effort with atmosphere and while the effects are still low budget, they do the job well. After some misfires the show has improved but it still suffers from jarring and awkward sex scenes that just get in the way of the fun. [Scotty McKellar]
