Sound Festival & IMP present Chemikal Underground Records

Article by Jaco Justice | 12 Nov 2009

Chemikal Underground’s fifteen year reign as a certifiable, yet humble, giant of Scottish indie is clearly apparent through the imprint’s blissfully pointed post-rock discography. Tonight the Phantom Band’s deeply probing folk - that will surely see their festival stock rise to headline status in 2010 - help garnish, alongside long-term label stalwart Emma Pollock’s melodramatic infusions, a bill of very fine health. Deadpan ex-Arab Strap vocalist Aidan Moffat will have plenty a tale to tell with his ever-changeable Best Ofs, while there’s still plenty of time for John Peel favourite Martin John Henry’s gaudy phrasings to be heard by the sure sell-out assembled.
