Inaugural Hinterland Festival Kicks Off Tomorrow

Article by Victoria Davie | 29 Apr 2009

As previously announced, Glasgow is to be hit by a musical maelstrom of the cream of today’s indie/rock/electro finest. Hinterland Festival takes place in over 15 venues across the city, with over 80 acts involved, showcasing talent from across the country. With a committee containing the likes of Jim Gellatly and Tam Coyle, the line-up does not disappoint. Hinterland also proves to be somewhat of a local festival for local people, as organisers are keen to ensure that around 50 per cent of the final line up is Scottish. A welcome addition to the list of festivals rising in popularity such as Sauchiehall Crawl, Oxjam and The Great Escape. One ticket will allow you access to a wide ranging crop of bands, with enough local heroes to keep you happy.

Highlights include upbeat Stonehaven band Copy Haho who will take the opportunity to air tracks from their new EP Bred For Skills & Magic. Another great band to consider is We Were Promised Jetpacks, if for no other reason other than to casually drop their ridiculously awesome name into conversations the next day.

From further afield we have North London trio Good Shoes, recently getting stuck into work for their sophomore album, summer dates will allow for new material to be debuted. The next stop are the fun filled Sky Larkin who are proving to be ones to watch with an exciting live set and buzz surrounding new album The Golden Spike .

Beats will be provided by electro big hitters Simian Mobile Disco who will play a Dj set, and from The Count and Sinden, creators of last year’s stuck in your head, crossover hit Beeper. Falsetto voiced beat pedlars Metronomy will be on hand to give an electro kick to the proceedings and more dance antics come from Glasgow's Galchen. Of course, this is only a small helping of the bounty to come. See here for the full line up and running times.

Oh, and look out for this fellow:

Tickets are priced at £42 for a two-day ticket and £23.50 for single day tickets.
