The Great Eastern festival returns for 2022
Edinburgh all-dayer The Great Eastern is back, with Kathryn Joseph, Free Love and Anna B Savage among the first acts announced for 2022
The Great Eastern all-dayer is back! The festival, at a trio of venues in Edinburgh's southside, returns this May and the first batch of artists for this year's lineup is headed by the impossible atmospheric Kathryn Joseph. The SAY Award-winning songwriter is joined on the bill by Brighton indie quartet Porridge Radio, and two big hits from last year's Great Eastern lineup – Anna B Savage and The Joy Hotel.
The Great Eastern 2022 lineup also features a couple of bands who sadly missed out on the 2021 edition – euphoric techno duo Free Love caught the flu back in November and had to pull out at the last minute but they're back for this year, while London psych outfit Soccer96 (made up of two-thirds of electro-jazz trio The Comet Is Coming) play this year's festival after also missing out in 2021. That outing of The Great Eastern featured BEAK>, Tracyanne & Danny and BC Camplight alongside the aforementioned Savage – read our review of the festival here.
The Great Eastern 2022 take place at King's Hall, Queen's Hall, and the many rooms of Summerhall on Saturday 21 May. The Skinny will once again host our very own stage at the festival; more details of that to follow shortly. The festival's Glasgow counterpart, The Great Western, takes place on Saturday 12 November at venues across Glasgow's west end.
