Bluedot announces 2019 line-up

New Order, Hot Chip and Jon Hopkins join Kraftwerk for the 2019 instalment of Bluedot as the first full wave of acts are revealed

Music, science and culture festival Bluedot will return to Cheshire’s Jodrell Bank Observatory for its fourth edition this July, and today they've announced the first wave of acts set to appear.

Topping the bill are New Order, Hot Chip and Jon Hopkins, joining previously announced headliners Kraftwerk, while the internationally renowned Hallé Orchestra will perform a specially curated selection of sci-fi themes and music related to the Moon accompanied by unique big screen visuals.

Elsewhere on the line-up are playwright and rapper Kate Tempest, John Grant, TOKIMONSTA, Gruff Rhys, Ibibio Sound Machine and techno-dabke artist Omar Souleyman. Also set to appear are Les Amazones d’Afrique, the first all-female West African supergroup.

The festival has announced the first names set to appear from its science and culture programme too, which will be centred around the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Speakers include science, wildlife and natural history broadcaster Liz Bonnin, Professor of Disability Research Tom Shakespeare and women’s rights activist Dr Helen Pankhurst, as well as physicist Professor Jim Al-Khalili, spaceflight expert Dr Libby Jackson and TV presenter Dallas Campbell.
