Award-winning Scottish comic and harassed dad John Gavin tells us about his show

Most important question first: Tell us about your show.

Its called 'Further down the rabbit hole'. Despite sounding like a reference to Alice in Wonderland, it has nothing to do with that. I already have two jokes about a rabbit and this show will have one new rabbit joke. Mostly it is more material about my home life with 3 daughters and how they torture me relentlessly.

What's going to be unique about this performance of your show?

I'm going to buy a new shirt for the show, so it will be the first time any audience will have ever seen me in this shirt.

Due to a lawsuit, you're forced to rename your show. What do you call it?

In a move similar to the Drifters I would call it "The Original Further Down the Rabbit Hole"

If your show was a dear friend who had just died, what would you say about it in your eulogy?

He was a good sort, I only wish more people had saw him.

What inspires you, other than comedy itself?

I love my music. At the minute Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Foster the People, M83 and the Vaccines are the soundtrack to my writing sessions. Also the some of the 'Drive' soundtrack. Although I must have a toothpick and my satin jacket on to listen to that one.

Is there anything in particular that you're looking forward to about playing in Glasgow?

Glasgow audiences are my favourite. They are so direct and tend to lack the inhibitions of other audiences. So if you're funny they really let you know.

Or anything you're dreading?

On the flip side of the previous answer if a Glasgow audience doesn't like you they will let you know.

Who would get your vote as president of an independent Scotland?

I'd go for the Proclaimers. Not knowing which one is which means that they could separate and be in two places at one time. Also in times of trouble they could sing 500 miles and diffuse any situation by people singing "da ran dah".

What's your favourite comedy festival in the world?

Glasgow. Its only 20 minutes away from my house. Its also a festival with no airs and graces. People just go to watch comedy, have a drink and have a good time.

If you were organising a fantasy comedy night, who would you have as MC, support and main act?

I do love to watch Raymond Mearns MC a gig and I'd get him to introduce Sean Lock and then have Billy Connolly close.

Who else are you going to see during the Glasgow Festival?

Barbara Nice at the Stand. Barbara is phenomenal. She can get audiences doing bhangra dances and will then crowd surf her way out of the room. She's not only hilarious but she is totally unforgettable.

Would you like to make a disparaging comment about the Edinburgh Fringe in order to appeal to the Glasgow public? (Don't worry, nobody will remember this by August)

The Glasgow comedy festival will not feature any concept shows where Cambridge students perform comedy songs and sketches based on period dramas.
