Folk music and fun banter from beloved comedy trooper Boothby Graffoe

Preview by Bernard O'Leary | 08 Mar 2012

Most important question first: Tell us about your show.

OK, It's going to be songs from the new album Bang! Is This Your Vehicle, Sir? and songs from the other albums and a couple yet to be on an album. And maybe one I'll write as we're touring. And a lot of waffling inbetween. Sounds great, doesn't it? Also Nick Pynn will be performing a couple of solo pieces. There will be no horses, borrowed or otherwise.

What's going to be unique about this performance of your show?

I don't know anyone else who sings my songs, so that makes every performance pretty unique.

Due to a lawsuit, you're forced to rename your show. What do you call it?

I don't know. Maybe I would appeal. Who's suing? Is it Flambert? He's such a git.

Is there anything in particular that you're looking forward to about playing in Glasgow?

It's a joy to visit Glasgow, if only for the subtleties of the one-way system. It's full of life, I mean the city not the one-way system, that's full of english people praying for their lives. I should save this gold for the 19th! Forget you've read this. It's harder than you think.

Or anything you're dreading?

Iron Sulfide. heh. No. I love Glasgow. It's a fantastic place. The Stand is a cool venue. And, when he's in Scotland, Nick Pynn gets even more Celtic on the hey diddle diddle. Scotland! The earth you stand upon is inspiring.

Where do you stand on Scottish Independence?

Same place I stand on any country's independence, or any human being's independence from huge centralized governments. If you get a chance, take it back.

Who would get your vote as president of an independent Scotland?

Frankie Boyle. I know Raymond Mearns said this too, because when you sent me the questions you left his answers on the document. Hee hee.

(ed's note – this really happened)

I think Frankie Boyle should be the president of Scotland. And Raymond Mearns thinks so as well, so there's two votes. Or one anyway because I don't think they'll let me vote.

What's your favourite comedy festival in the world?

I don't do them now as much as I used to. Glasgow is the only comedy festival I'm performing at this year. I'm at The Stand with Nick Pynn, a musician. They call him "Nicky The Alchemist." he makes gold out of wood and nylon. We're going to play some songs and have a right giggle. You should come. I read somewhere it was the only comedy festival I'm performing at this year.

If you were organising a fantasy comedy night, who would you have as MC, support and main act?

9.00. Hammer, 10mins

9.10. Tbc, 20mins

9.30. (interval) 15mins

9.45 Hammer, 10mins

9.55 1832 reform. 180years

Regional current affairs. Fill in the blank space: Rangers____LOL

Is that still current? It's all about horses where i am now. but that will be gone soon. It isn't easy to joke ahead. Here goes, that Dali Lama? In those shoes? eh? Oh, how we will laugh.

Boothby Graffoe & Nick Pynn, 'Bang! Is This Your Vehicle, Sir?' is at The Stand on Monday 19 March, 7.30pm. Tickets £9 http://www.glasgowcomedyfestival.com/shows/#!/shows/249
