I Want To Tell You Something @ Sweet

Review by Emma Ainley-Walker | 06 Aug 2013

I Want To Tell You Something. I need to talk to you. Those kinds of phrases usually instil us with a sense of fear, implying something is wrong, that we've been caught or at the very least that we're not going to like the subject matter.

With this show, that is not the case – and it goes a long way to convincing that we should all want to tell each other something. Stories make up our entire lives and sharing those stories is the most basic form of communication. That is what I want to tell you.

Writer and performer Caroline Sniatynski easily blends the story of Agamemnon and Efiginea with stories from her own life, all the while capturing your attention with her open tone. It's a small space, as it should be, that allows you the audience to really feel as if you're sharing stories with a friend. This, I think, is the atmosphere Sniatynski wants to encourage. Go prepared to listen and to enjoy someone else's stories the way you did as a kid at bedtime. Go prepared to learn the effectiveness of a single sheet of paper. Go to learn some origami. Go with something in mind that you want to tell. You won't regret it. [Emma Ainley-Walker]
