Stardust

Stardust is the latest offering from director Mathew Vaughn (Layer Cake). It is a star-studded fantasy epic that tells the magical tale of one man’s quest to capture a fallen star and bring it back to the girl he loves. Tristan (Charlie Cox) sets forth from the sleepy village of Wall, promising Victoria (Sienna Miller) that he will journey into the dangerous land of Stormhold in order to retrieve this star. Once in Stormhold Tristain realises that the fallen star is in fact a girl named Yvaine (Claire Danes), who is being relentlessly pursued by the evil witch Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer) and the tireless King (Peter O’Toole).

The fantasy world of Stormhold is brilliantly realised with incredible attention to detail. The viewer is swept up in a magical world of two-headed elephants, flying ships and pirates, which is a noted departure from the dark and violent world of the acclaimed Layer Cake. With brilliant appearances from Ricky Gervais and Robert De Niro (as a cross-dressing pirate), this film combines first-class acting talent with spectacular visual effects. Stardust has the makings of a great fantasy classic; one that will appeal to adults and children alike.
