Lau

A consummate display of folk musicianship

Review by Neil Ferguson | 17 Aug 2007

The constituent members of Lau are three of the finest folk musicians in Scotland. This is made immediately apparent as they take to the stage, inspiring awe with their technical abilities.

Guitar battles with fiddle, fiddle with accordion as melodies are volleyed across the stage. Add to this the various elements of classical music, freeform jazz and traditional folk style that Lau invoke and it could all get too much. Yet despite this inherent conflict, the ensemble sounds remarkably coherent.

With all the customary stage banter laughs, this is a great night of folk music and a consummate display of musicianship.
