Miles Allen: One Man Breaking Bad @ The Famous Spiegeltent

Review by Cara Hunter Liddle | 15 Aug 2014

In a completely packed venue, where people are not only standing at the back but also squeezed into every available nook and cranny, the atmosphere here is something quite special. One Man Breaking Bad, as the title suggests is one man – Miles Allen – doing a comedic version of the entire plot of the hit TV series Breaking Bad.

Allen bursts onto the stage dressed in the iconic yellow hazmat suit and throws himself into his performance; using skills as an impersonator he brings to life the main characters from the show with a unique flourish. His energy and enthusiasm are non-stop as he powers through his version of '60 episodes in 60 minutes.' Staying close to the original storyline, while adding his own hilarious spin, Allen's wisecracks come at a rapid rate of fire. The majority work well, however the constant stream of comedy can feel somewhat overwhelming, with some of the humour being lost in the tirade of jokes. His impersonation of a character with cerebral palsy also causes a few nervous giggles around the room, but credit where it is due – this is all part of Allen's impressive repertoire.

This show is an intense experience but for all you Breaking Bad fans it is a must-see from this year's Fringe.
