Kunt And The Gang

Review by Bernard O'Leary | 06 Aug 2012

What a difference a few cock-shaped stickers can make. Two years ago, Kunt was playing to baffled tourists after midnight. Now he's the star attraction of the Free Festival, endorsed by Stewart Lee and tonight he's playing to a packed room. Of fans. Who know all the lyrics.

Tonight's a greatest hits set, with staples such as Let's Send Nan To Dignitas, Fucksticks and perennial classic Use My Arsehole As A Cunt. The main difference is Kunt himself who is now a lot more confident in his banter, riffing with the crowd in a way he didn't last year. It's quite likely that Kunt is the funniest person in Britain right now and this basment full of drunks tonight definitely seem to hold this opinion.

This gig kind of feels like the end of a chapter for Kunt. He's clearly too big for the Free Festival, plus the element of surprise that his act normally relies on is now utterly lost at the Fringe. So what's next? Will he do the Pleasancein 2013? Or will he go in a different direction, maybe producing something like Shannon Matthews: The Musical? Time will tell, but we can say for sure that Kunt is no longer comedy's dirty little secret.
