Bridget Christie: My Daily Mail Hell

Article by Becca Pottinger | 19 Aug 2009

Daily Mail Hell is a decisive rant about Christie’s time doing the admin for the paper’s gossip column. A great deal of the show’s delivery is hammed up to the nines and the genuine funnies are few and far between, hidden in subtly self-reflexive smirks at her own over-acting. From stories of fascist tea-drinkers to Alan Yentob’s dancing capabilities it verges on the overly rehearsed. The small inflections of self-deprecating wit that creep through belie a more substantial performer beneath the acting-class façade and if she dropped the military vigour in favour of a more naturalistic front, Christie could very well have something potent on her hands for next year’s Fringe.
