Amazing Adventure Stories of Todd Womack

Article by Edward Whelan | 24 Aug 2009

The bulk of Todd Womack’s material comes from his travels around South America. He has good stories and for the most part they are well told - I find myself retelling some of them later as they are both funny and fascinating. But the gig feels more like an evening of travel documentaries than stand up. Not every comedian wants to be firing punchlines every three seconds, but here the laughs seem just a bit too far apart.

However, Womack has a thoroughly engaging stage presence with a warm Texan accent - American accents are oddly appealing in comics in the UK - and he confidently holds the stage. You find yourself enjoying his company despite the scarcity of the jokes. Throw in a few extra big laughs and this could be a hell of a show.
