Glasgow School Of Art Fashion Show 2011 Preview

Article by Alexandra Fiddes | 08 Mar 2011

Third year Glasgow School Of Art students are busily applying the finishing touches to their garments in preparation for their annual fashion show, which will be organised and directed by the students themselves in an effort to finance a trip to the New Designers graduate exhibition in London this summer.

This year the show will take place on the 8 and 9 March at the legendary Vic Bar for the last time – the venue will sadly be closing its doors in June as part of a wider campus redevelopment plan. In a tribute to another of the buildings to be redeveloped the third year students have taken inspiration from The Newbery Tower – GSA textile department base since the 1970s – utilising the GSA archives as source material and creating capsule collections within their own specialisms of knit, print, weave or embroidery.

As well as the catwalk event itself there will be a chance to buy pieces designed and made by the students in the Fashion Show Boutique, which will be open before and after each show. So remember to bring your wallet, it is for a good cause after all!

Tickets are priced at £7 for adults and £5 for comcessions and are available from the Vic Bar, GSA Mcintosh building and Tickets Scotland. Shows are at 7pm and 9pm both evenings. www.ticketscotland.com

There will also be an exhibition of work by first year textile students in GSA's Atrium Gallery (8-13 Mar)
