Write Here, Write Now

Everyone I know is writing a sitcom, including me.

Write Here Write Now, part of the Scotland Writes initiative from the BBC Writer’s Room, has invited us to put together a Scottish comedy/drama script. Only Scots or people based in Scotland are eligible and pieces must be set in Scotland with at least one Scottish character in it. This means that the future of Scottish comedy on television could be in our collective, sticky hands.

Excitingly, they are asking not for a polished script but a proper head explosion, from ten to fifteen pages of the boldest stuff you can possibly come up with. The BBC Scotland Comedy department will then judge the three best entries. If you are one of the lucky spiffing new talents, you'll be mentored and your piece will be developed into a thirty minute full script. Scenes from all three developed pieces will be performed at a rehearsed reading, in front of an audience of industry professionals during the Edinburgh Fringe this August.

So get cracking. The deadline is March 26th. Send your script to bbcscotlandcomedy@bbc.co.uk along with the application form provided on the BBC Writer’s Room website.
