Artist: V/A
Label: Freestyle Records
Funk must be rescued from the irrepressible stereotypes purported by popular culture and the uninspired hen/stag nights that roam the streets in search of more libations. The genre has been taking a relative backseat in the charts in recent times – exactly why do we never hear a proper funky tune preceded by 'in at number one' anymore? Stay On The Groove Vol.2 is a collection of tracks born out of the 21st century, with a few snippets and voices from its prime era. Compiled by collector, DJ, and label boss Adrian Gibson, the album features Quantic Soul Orchestra and the fantastic Pushin' On, Glasgow's Boogaloo Investigators, Breakestra's Got to Let me Know, Poets of Rhythm, urban cool from DJ Format, and the jazz sax-indulgent sounds of Outer Space Pt 1 by Orasio Garcia and Young Musicians. This is not just a party mix, it's a funky little gem. [Struan Otter]
