Tom Findlay - Watch the Ride

The lack of Sugardaddy material is its greatest downfall, as Findlay sacrifices personal exposure in order to prove his worth on the decks

Album title: Watch the Ride
Artist: Tom Findlay
Label: Harmless Records
Tom Findlay, one half of Groove Armada and Sugardaddy, kicks off the second in Harmless Recordings' new Watch The Ride series. He skilfully mixes funk, disco, hip-hop and drum and bass across fifteen tracks while maintaining continuity and flow. It features remixes by The Glimmers, Joakim, Magik J and Riton, and there are also appearances from the Aliens and Phreek Plus One. Love Honey and Chasing my tail are both exclusive tracks from Findlay's Sugardaddy outfit, and the former's basketball bass beats, echoing lyrics and a healthy selection of electro cuts make for fantastic listening. The latter taps into the rocktronic vibe leaking out of Ibiza. The mix loses some of its momentum in the middle but the crescendo tracks more than make up for this. Overall the lack of Sugardaddy material is its greatest downfall, as Findlay sacrifices personal exposure in order to prove his worth on the decks.[Franck Martin]
