Album Review by James Blake | 08 Oct 2007
Album title: The World is Theirs
Artist: The IRS
Label: Merciless Records
The IRS are a fluent and flowing act, and their album is a tightly rhymed joint that puts one in mind of some of the better acts coming out of Brighton at the moment. You can imagine them sitting comfortaby on a bill with Koaste or Dr. Syntax: it's a refreshing burst of polemic that doesn't alienate instantly, and the vibe they are riding is one of party-friendly indignance.
Charming and aggro all at once, this five strong crew have a lot to sell them, and it seems to be working for them so far. The bass-heavy production of this - their first Merciless Records album - ensures their music would work well in most Saturday sets. If you like intelligent and well-heeled rap and you want something full-fat to bang your head to, check it out. [James Blake]
