Randolph Matthews - Documented

He appears to want to be the new Paul Simon, but doesn't compare in quality, ingenuity or style

Album title: Documented
Artist: Randolph Matthews
Label: El Nino Diablo
Mr. Matthews soulful vocals accompany an array of percussive instruments, transcending from slow whining tracks to more enlightened tunes that are infused with his West Indian roots. The slow paced album twists and turns via varying moods and emotions, yet never brims with excitement. This is a move from Randolph's previous electro and hip-hop breaks collaborations, taking on acoustic instrumental vibes; conveying personal and intimate emotions adequately. While some elements dive straight into rnb cliche, his unusual throaty backing lyrics create a more unique sound. He appears to want to be the new Paul Simon, but doesn't compare in quality, ingenuity or style. [Lara Moloney]
