Pepe Deluxe - Spare Time Machine

A riotous, heady cocktail of bizarre yet essential tracks

Album Review by Karen Taggart | 08 Oct 2007
Album title: Spare Time Machine
Artist: Pepe Deluxe
Label: Catskills
The third album from Finnish pioneers and 'sonic manipulators' Pepe Deluxe is a extravaganza and mish-mash of styles and vocals, reminiscent of The Avalanches crossed with Beck, Pink Floyd and King Crimson. Guitar riffs mixed with electronica make for a truly unique, quirky and avant garde sound, with fabulous psychedelic artwork to boot. Travelling from blues, punk, classical, funk and jazz to sixties rock to hip-hop, the entire album is a journey full of happiness. The assault of styles makes for compelling listening, and different to previous LPs, as this one features absolutely no samples. A riotous, heady cocktail of bizarre yet essential tracks (each one as great as the next), this really is the sound of now. Simply put, go and buy it. [Karen Taggart]
