Single title: Forgotten Knights
Artist: Pepe Deluxe
Label: Catskills Records
This record is so driven by lead guitars, some may be surprised to see it reviewed in Beats. It's easy to imagine this record being danced to 40 years ago, in jazz clubs and coffee bars. The lead vocalist has a rich, commanding baritone that demands your attention. He's ably backed up by some superbly jazzy drumming, while the bass is the central driving engine and we are never allowed to forget it. It pummels away all through the disc, with horn riffs on top. This all fuses into a very live-sounding and exciting disc which has a distinctly retro feel to it, while also being modern enough to grab the ears of today's audience. More soon, please.
