Paul Haig - Reason

Reason is an unnervingly radio-friendly slice of electro-pop that errs more to the pop side, and sounds like current Josef K-plagiarists Franz Ferdinand

It's been a long time since we heard much from Paul Haig, and despite the recent Josef K compilation we were blessed with, it's hard not to be excited. Admittedly his latest single Reason is an unnervingly radio-friendly slice of electro-pop that errs more to the pop side, and sounds like current Josef K-plagiarists Franz Ferdinand, but with Eno at the production desk. That said, the few tracks available from his forthcoming album suggest Haig is exploring new avenues that yield more experimental work. Beat Dream is depressingly like an updated version of Soft Cell, but is worryingly catchy, whilst Thieves sounds like Marilyn Manson locked in Steve Bug's recording studio. It's all very interesting, but so far nothing bears the promise of Josef K. [Liam Arnold]
