Legends in Drum and Bass don't come much bigger than Goldie and the dank black surroundings at Calton Studios would seem to house a perfect environment for the dark atmospheric sounds we are used to from the Metalheadz label boss. Fresh from his Friday night stint in Glasgow's Art School you may have expected Goldie to be in full rinse out mode. However, the flat-spirited crowd makes it look like it's their second night on the trot and while Goldie kept the beats surprisingly airy, it seems to prove hard to get the people properly moving. It could be that the lack of bodies for what you would have hoped to be a near sell-out night is dampening the spirits, or that the sound system is warbling around half way, but the night lacks true guts, which in turn detracts from what, on the face of it, should be an event to remember. The expectation of a great night can sometimes be its downfall.[Jonny Ogg]
