Album title: In Gumbo
Artist: Kasper Bjorke
Label: Plant Music
Sounds bleep, click, and whir out of the speakers. While the array of shiny new sounds presented are very impressive, they're also cold and uninvolving. This, therefore, is an album to be admired rather than truly loved. It seems to have realized this before it left the factory and has equipped itself with a breakneck pace. Back & Spine is the best example, with F.M. Belfast's voice introduced late on in the track, giving it a chance to settle on the taste buds. The voices work best when used as another instrument, but this isn't allowed to happen often enough and highlights the album's key flaw: over-production. Too much time has been spent on perfecting the playing and not enough on getting emotions going. The upside to this is that everything here can be heard loud and clear – a must when it comes to the dancefloor. An interesting failure. [Jonathan Robert Muirhead]
