Pushing for a suitable climax, his closing number, a remix of Prodigy's No Good (Start The Dance), unapologetically steals the show

Fledgling dubstep night Oscillate is building a fan base by giving the genre's newer contributors the chance to flex their bass bins. The case in point is Glasgow and Edinburgh headliners playing out their own material across back-to-back laptop sets. First up, seasoned techno aficionado and recent dubstep convert, Monochrome's set is something similar to the less dub-ish Pinch; sleek and technically precise with a fluid construction and long sustained waves of open space bass. His genre hybridism gives way to the more purist dubstep sound of his latest material towards the end of his set, making the hand over to Gravious' closer a smooth transition. Massive bass drop-offs and pulsing skank rhythms punctuate the set. Pushing for a suitable climax, his closing number, a remix of Prodigy's No Good (Start The Dance), unapologetically steals the show. A great night that could have been made better still with a bigger rig to really rattle the rib cage. [Jack McFarlane]
