Funk La Planet Allstars feat. Toni Smith - Summertime

It's inoffensive, mainstream armchair dance music

Single Review by Jack McFarlane | 08 Sep 2007
Label: Funk La Planet
Taking the lyrics and song title, but little else, from a jazz classic and applying it to a funky house template, Funk La Planet Allstars are sitting on what they hope to be a summer anthem. With the a-side mix there's some slick funky electric bass with light fingered guitar and piano work, and string sections that come and go with the builds in ambience. Over that there are plenty of OTT female vocals, and a light 4/4 beat with skilfully varied fills. It's all very nice, but nice in an almost derogatory sense. It is what it is; high production coffee table house music, and there's no denying that there's a market for this sort of thing. It's inoffensive, mainstream armchair dance music. [Jack McFarlane]
