Felix Da Housecat, We Are Electric, Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh, Feb 15

Less like a superclub mix and more like the craziest house-party jam you ever heard

Article by Bram Gieben | 17 Mar 2006
Felix is undoubtedly in the Superstar DJ category, and he certainly lived up to his reputation on this rowdy visit to We Are Electric at the Cab. Residents Flix and Gary Mac warmed up with some tough and slick electrotech as the club filled to the gunnels, soon producing a soup-like tropical atmosphere reminiscent of a rainforest. Felix took to the decks with absolute confidence, ignoring tunes' structures and twisting out the mids to build and cut atmosphere dramatically. The climax was Daft Punk's Rollin' & Scratchin' into Silver Screen, Shower Scene, into a deliriously received Teenage Kicks. At all times Felix displayed a rough-cut mastery of pace, delivering a set that was less like a superclub mix and more like the craziest house-party jam you ever heard. Something of a physical endurance test, this was truly an epic for WAE punters - here's hoping M.A.N.D.Y. next month is just as well attended. [Bram Gieben]
