It's a tribute to Xplicit's name that when Hype goes AWOL the day before the big night, the organisers reach into the magic hat, and barely fumbling, bring out a line-up which overshadows the original: East London's junglist d&b mixmaster DJ Randall and 'King of the Collaborators' Fierce are no mean compensation. Thanks to Xplicit residents Morphy and Eno, the Art School main room is sweating like a dieter's aerobics class by midnight, followed by Fierce carving a set of a slightly darker substance: the focus shifts onto seismic basslines, and jump-up snares snapping like a troupe of tiny alligators - just in time for Randall to grace the stage. He pursues the former vibe, with cutting-edge jungle leanings sneaking in at intervals, and roars through a beast of a set accompanied by superbly timed gobbets of rhyme from Xplicit's BZ. Don't believe the Hype, jungle is officially massive. [Rosie McLean]
