It's a kudos in itself to snare the legendary Daniel Bell for a gig, but Freq accomplish the feat, enticing the fans who remember his valued contribution/invention of minimal techno and house in the early 90s, and those who want a lesson in streamlined funk and beats. The Freq team deliver their usual heady set of infectious rhythms to fill the dancefloor, yet the night remains slightly emptier than usual – but given that Glastonbury is in full-swing down south, any doubts of waning popularity of the club can be smartly pushed to the side and quickly forgotten. Bell is on top form when he takes to the stage, smoothly traversing between delicious 4/4 and deeper, almost acidic, beats. It's a marginal disappointment when Bell does not break out the DBX material that some of the older members of the crowd are expecting, but nevertheless, a balanced mix of the old and new school (including the seamless introduction of Carl Craig's remix of Like A Child by the Junior Boys) keeps the set walking a fine line between house, techno, electro, and the downright soulful.
