Album title: Bayani
Artist: Blue Scholars
Label: Rawkus
Rawkus are a label renowned for scouring beneath the surface to obtain
talent and Blue Scholars are no exception to their recruiting rules. The duo consists of producer Sabzi and Geologic, a rhyme slayer; both hailing from Seattle but as hip-hop as New York. Bayani, their sophomore album,
encompasses the righteous style of Public Enemy, the hip-hop principles of
Tribe Called Quest, and production skills worthy of J-Dilla and Hi-Tek. Blue Scholars find a way to communicate the social ills surrounding the United States without preaching. Whilst the political status of the Bush administration doesn't dominate verses, the constant reminiscent view allows Geologic to spit the perfect images of his life and those with a similar struggle. Such is the case with the tune Bring Them Back Home where they request that compadres are returned from Iraq. Blue collar boom bap rap is what Blue Scholar transmit; lets see who's listening.
