Blitzkrieg Bop at The Arches, 9th March

Article by Gill Tasker | 11 Apr 2007
Blitzkrieg Bop is back, boasting a suitably impressive line-up. First up on the decks was Art of Parties, combining bold, banging tunes with vibrant visuals in their stylish set. Dev and Apple Q (formerly of Test Icicles) then spun a set, a mad mash-up of hip hop, metal, early 90's dance and cheesy pop; anything that "sounds good played loud". London's Radioclit played live, getting toes tapping and heads nodding to their danceable disco-electro, and then it was The Futureheads turn to pick a mixture of tunes that kept the dancefloor ticking over nicely. Closing the night were DJ-duo X Vectors who blasted out some high-energy tunage, keeping the crowd dancing right until the end. The night also marked the official launch of The Horrors album, so for fans there were badges and stickers galore. The Blitzkrieg Bop is potentially fantastic, but the cavernous venue seemed to engulf the crowd. There was a slight lack in atmosphere, though this didn't decrease the enthusiasm of the night. If you're up for a bop, keep your eyes peeled over the forthcoming months, as there are sure to be some real treats in store.
