Album title: Music City Soul
Artist: Beverley Knight
Label: Parlophone
Whatever you think of Beverley Knight, there's absolutely no denying she's got a fabulous voice. Her latest album Music City Soul was recorded over just five days in Nashville Tennessee, and sees Beverley going back to her gospel roots to produce a soulful sound which is hard to beat. The album features a fine collection of well known collaborators, with Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood featuring on three tracks, including the first single to be taken from the album, No Man's Land. In terms of contemporary soul singers Beverley Knight is almost peerless. The strength and range of her voice is simply breathtaking, and this album beautifully encompasses her talent. If pure, gospel-tinged soul is your thing, then get out there and buy the album – standout tracks include Black Butta, the Stone's cover Time Is On My Side, and Rock Steady. With this release Beverley Knight puts herself up there with the masters, such as Aretha and Sam Cooke. Put simply – amazing voice, great talent, unmissable album. [Karen Taggart]
