London's Battant capture hearts down in the Sub Club

Article by Chris Duncan | 07 Jul 2009

Arriving from the bright lights of London this evening are Battant, one of the jewels in the crown of Parisian label Kill the DJ. The female fronted three-piece play a short but wonderfully tight set, with lead singer Chloe's vocals proving to be the foundations of every song performed this evening. The rhythm guitar and drum machine are destined to become utterly secondary for every minute of tonight's performance as her voice proves to be highly captivating. Their sound manages to be dark without being bleak, seemingly drawing influences from the likes of the Velvet Underground and Siouxie and the Banshees. The majority of the crowd are left mesmerised by the performance, emotions bubbling under until one fellow down the front decides to become a spokesperson for us all and simply lets out a cry of 'taps aff'. Quite.
