Steve Bug + Andrew Weatherall @ Sub Club Grand New Year's Eve 2008/9, 31 Dec

Article by Dylan Reed | 09 Dec 2008

I'm sick of hearing people say they hate New Year, how it's just the same as every other night. That's clearly total bollocks. Not only 'cause of the accumulated weight of Hogmanay heritage, which means it's as good as in-your-blood that this is a big, heavyweight emotional night (some people just can't handle what's in their blood, right?). But also 'cause there are a ton of imaginative and different options to raise the stakes on your biggest night of the year.

One of Glasgow's biggest and best is a relatively recent tradition, whereby the Classic Grand and Sub Club open their doors together, for an amalgamated night of cutting-edge dance music revelry.

This year they've lined up minimal meist' Steve Bug, alongside perennial inventor Andrew Weatherall, with Sub Club residents Harri and Domenic all part of the set-up. The moderate chance of getting lost between the two venues is more than made up for by the excitement of stumbling across whole new areas of fun, and when great music and a high sense of occasion combine so explicitly as this, you're know you're in for a great one.
