Continuing the burlesque theme that has taken the UK by storm, is Sleek, a special themed club night that aims to 'applaud glamour and be unashamedly sexy', without the sleaze, and all the manners. Old school glamour will be set to electro, house, and techno, and live visuals in the form of burlesque acts (Sakura Tsui and Karney Doll) and a trapeze artist. The club isn't necessarily for the youngsters, and aims to attract a wider group of clubbers, from ages 25-45, and gender and gay friendly. The non-profit night is in remembrance of a friend, Valentina, who died in a tragic car accident last year: she was involved, and immensely enjoyed, the burlesque scene. The DJs for the night are all local headz: Kev Wright (Sublime), Ricky Palys (Beatroot), MNKY (Freqbeat), Dave Myers (Eden Angels), and Stephen Boyle aka DJ No Bad (who is making his debut performance!), all picked for their women-friendly sound. From funky house to bouncy, to tech trance, to non-stop B-sides, the night is cornering all bases. Cocktails, massages and body painting will also be on hand. The male punters, or rather, the Gentleman, are to play a 'pivotal' role, and high-class manners are expected all night, so practice by giving up your seat on the bus in the meantime! The dress code is burlesque, Hollywood glamour, pin-up girl, sex kitten, corsets, kilts and suits - perhaps not all at the same time, but pick a style and flaunt it! Sleek may be a one-off, but if it proves successful, more nights may be in the pipeline. [Struan Otter]
