Shanghai, located in the basement of the trendy hotel Le Monde, is taking on the challenge of mastering Sunday night clubbing in Edinburgh with its weekly event Shake. John Hutchinson, one half of established local DJ duo Tokyoblu (known for their ridiculously inventive nights at Ego and the late Venue), takes to the decks to spin an eclectic mix of tunes. Playing a mixture of house, disco and electro, with a constant sense of party spirit and relaxed atmosphere, he is joined by Gary J on live percussion, with saXingh amping up the funk on saxophone. The resulting mash-up of soulful beats and original sounds ensures that, at Shake, Sunday night doesn't necessarily mean the end of the weekend. [Scott Ramage]
