Let it Bleed Presents: Carl Craig @ SNAFU, Aberdeen, 20 Mar

Article by Jaco Justice | 27 Feb 2009

One wonders what kind of preview you would bestow to Carl Craig’s committed, global fan base. The many guises, identities and moments of modern musical history he has written make a mightily impressive list. For the unversed, this Detroit kingpin’s offering to electronic songs since the 80s is simply a head above and throughout his career he has proven commitment to re-approaching how we listen, dance and endure the tribal emotions racking through our mortally-bound souls. A prodigy of Derrick May, Craig’s early musical studies veered towards the techno-funk of another Detroit pioneer Juan Atkins and embarked him on a production journey that fused jazz, hip-hop and hardcore elements, unfolding with massive, worldwide exposure for his cosmic talents in the 90s - aided in Europe by releases on labels such as R&S and Mute. Synonymous with his Plant E imprint he can be heard, by demand, regularly on the UK club circuit but this is a rare lesson in electronic spirituality for Aberdeen, from one of the rave masters.
