JD Twitch @ Men & Machines @ Stereo, 23 May

Article by Colin Chapman | 09 May 2009

To celebrate their first birthday this month, Men & Machines welcome J D Twitch back to the decks. A fitting return as the Optimo DJ played at their launch last year and this time round his appearance forms part of the Stag & Dagger music festival taking place across various Glasgow venues on the night. Twitch will be playing an exclusive R & S Records set to celebrate his freshly released ‘In Order To Edit’ compilation for the legendary Belgian label.

Inspired by R & S’s recent anthology of its finest cuts, ‘In Order To Dance’, Twitch has re-edited Optimo’s favourite tracks from the imprint and stitched them together into one, continuous mix. Last year saw R & S re-launch themselves after a long period spent in the shadows with productions from Radio Slave and Steve Lawler. However, it’ll probably be a while before they match the quality of their influential nineties output such as Joey Beltram’s ‘Energy Flash’, Jaydee’s ‘Plastic Dreams’, ‘The Vamp’ by Outlander and ‘Selected Ambient Works ’85-92’ from Aphex Twin, to cite only a handful. Its artist roster of that period also read like a who’s who of electronic music, with Derrick May, Ken Ishi, CJ Bolland, Kenny Larkin, Carl Craig, Model 500 and Dave Angel all featuring.

As an added incentive, they’ll be copies of the 'In Order to Edit' CD to give away to the first 50 people paying at the door, so best get down early!
