Derrick Carter & Luke Solomon Classic Records Tour

Back in the mid 90s, Chicago house stalwart Derrick Carter and his English compatriot Luke Solomon, acknowledging that supply and demand were linked when it came to vinyl, decided to take a unique approach to cataloging the releases on the label they set up, Classic Records. Instead of numbering the records in ascending order they began at 100 and counted down. From that point onwards they released all sorts of classic (with a small ‘c’) records including seminal releases by DJ Sneak, Markis Nikolai and Matthew Herbert.

Sure enough, the label closed after the 100th release, once zero had been reached. Although the label had become defunct its sound and ethos had become synonymous enough with audiences for the two DJs to take the label's name on the road for a series of tours. In 2008 the label began releasing records again, although not on vinyl this time, and earlier this year the duo began re-releasing large batches of the label’s entire back catalogue. With Carter having also released a Fabric Mix back in March the reemergence of the Classic Records sound will be much anticipated with Carter and Solomon once more back in charge.
