Deep East, The Cruz (The Shore), Edinburgh, Mar 3

The Shore's latest renovation is The Cruz, complete with a top-level bar and underground nightclub where a former engine room used to reside. The deep rumbles from the machinery have been replaced with decks and speakers, but the tunes are definitely going to keep the deep theme.

If you like your house music deep with a splash of tech, jackin' and 'fidget' house (ok we're not entirely sure what the last genre is, but we imagine stuttering beats and spasmodic melodies) then take a wander down to the shores of Leith. Resident DJ Andy Christie (Afterdark/Spun'k) together with Sandro Margiotta are looking to take Edinburgh house to further territories in style and culture: "We've seen what works, what doesn't and more than anything we've seen that what makes a great club is the music and the people." The Shore's latest renovation is The Cruz, complete with a top-level bar and underground nightclub where a former engine room used to reside. The deep rumbles from the machinery have been replaced with decks and speakers, but the tunes are definitely going to keep the deep theme. The location and club style is instrumental in carrying out the Deep East vision of "avoidance of city centre beer swilling monsters". More tracks dropped and less vomit and paggers all round. Mar 3 is their official launch night, and Christie will be joined by DJ Scott Dickie (Casa Blue/Spun'k) – the first in a series of global guests from hotspots like London, Berlin and the USA. There will be a collection for Cancer Research on the door, but this is not a temporary charitable quest – every Deep East event will be collecting for the organization. [Alex Burden]
