Death Disco Presents Jacques Lu Cont
The last monthly Death Disco at The Arches will go out on a high with the multiple personalities of Jacques Lu Cont and the offbeat wackiness of The 2 Bears.
Stuart Price began the first stage of his chameleonic transformations by appearing as an improbably named Frenchman Jacques Lu Cont in Les Rythmes Digitales back in the mid 90’s when possessing a French name and owning a synthesizer were all the credentials you required. He progressed from the grittier loops of his debut, Liberation, to the solid gold encrusted funk of Jacques Your Body on his follow up Darkdancer; but it is his Fabric #9 mix that best illustrates his mixing aesthetic. Juxtaposing the funk and electro records you would expect against the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey and songs by the likes of Steve Miller gives every indication that this will be truly a sonic spectacular.
The 2 Bears is the collective effort of Joe Goddard of Hot Chip and Raf Daddy of Greco-Roman Soundsystem who are clearly enjoying having escaped their more familiar habitats and their calling card, the playful Bear Hug, sounds like Hot Chip lost in the woods – does a more dumb but fun song exist right now?
