Balkanarama @ Stereo, Glasgow, 13 Feb

The Balkan music scene is growing fast everywhere in Europe.

The Balkan music scene is growing fast everywhere in Europe (it already has a large following in Berlin, Amsterdam, London, and France) and Balkanarama is pretty much the only night of its kind in Scotland. Fusing virtuoso live performance on traditional instruments with DJs spinning electro Balkan beats, the entire evening is accompanied by films, visuals and spontaneous table dancing. Balkanarama's Glasgow debut will feature Black Cat (an incredibly high-energy 10-piece band playing live Klezmer and Gypsy music), DJ Marco of Orkestra Del Sol and a live performance from Vrelo (transfixing polyphonic female choir). Belly-dancing performances, early live jam session, visuals (featuring work of various Balkan photographers), free shots of tasty rakija and loza (plum/grape brandies), and a few other surprises are also promised for this truly unique night. The east coast will be treated to Hungary's Kalman Balogh, Aberdeen's Jani Lang Band and Black Cat later in the month.
